NFL: Week Three, 2008

by Rick Rockwell

As happened last week, no formal column but some interesting questions and an observation. After that shootout in Dallas on Monday, is there any doubt that the NFC East is the dominant division in the league? Conversely, does that make the NFC West the worst division? Does that explain the undefeated Cardinals? So if the Jets can't beat the Patriots with Brett Favre at the controls, does that mean the future hall-of-famer raised the team up to mere mediocrity? Are the Jaguars snakebit? Does the Vince Young incident in Tennessee mean the talented young quarterback is done until much, much later in the season or do you chalk this up to nerves, insecurity and immaturity, meaning he'll be back soon? Does the botched call at the end of the Broncos-Chargers game rank right up there with the infamous "tuck rule" call? (And are the Raiders still bitter about that?) When will the Cleveland Browns that looked so good on paper finally show up this year? And finally, did the Corner jinx the Eagles this season? Or is that just typical luck for the Eagles that a botched handoff in Dallas cost them a very big game? And can they survive yet another heavyweight matchup, this time with the Steelers? Could this be a matchup of two playoff teams already, or just one? Well, both the Steelers and Eagles have strong playoff potential, and both are excellent teams, but running back Brian Westbrook, Andy Reid and their crew have the edge playing at home. And now, the rest of the picks are after the jump....
