Help send Jack to Hollywood!

by Jack Douglass

When a guy's got a one-in-ten chance of going to Hollywood, he'll do just about anything to win. Most likely he'll sink to new levels of shameless self-promotion, whoring himself out to all forms of media just to get the news "out there." Soon the world will be so polluted with his message that everyone will be sick to death of hearing it.

Take me, for example.

My film "Celebration!" is a finalist for Kohl's Generation Transformation Film Contest. I'm competing against nine other contestants nationwide for a filmmaker's dream prize -- a trip to Hollywood for a three-day internship on the set of "One Tree Hill." The winner is decided by the public. Anyone who goes to Kohl's website can vote for his/her favorite video. Voting ends October 9th, and the winner will be announced on October 24th.

So how have I plugged for this? So far I've created an "event" on Facebook, gotten the video on American Televion -- ATV (watch for it!), posted on several forums, contacted film groups, and basically told everyone I've ever known. "Tell your friends" has become my new catchphrase.

Exposure is crucial to this or any other contest where the stakes are high. I can't help but imagine what the other nine contestants have been doing, and thinking about that provides great motivation to broadcast the hell out of this because when you come right down to it, I'm competing in a popularity contest.

Oh, and tell your friends.

(Jack Douglass is known for his satirical video "Snakes in a Dorm," among other fare. For a more direct version of Jack's pitch...plea...er...plug...see the video below.)
